In these positions I have gained significant experience in the following areas- Case management that prioritizes the client's needs and wants while focusing their future success and ensuring confidentiality is maintained to the highest degree- Supporting adults and youth with life skills including cooking, cleaning bedrooms, bathrooms, organizing personal items, and how to plan for adulthood, while acknowledging the clients individual experiences and trauma's that have shaped their lives- Connection with caseworkers and other government workers, ensuring professional conduct and communication, and the right to privacy of clients involved- Facilitating conversations around safety, both physical and mental, with clients and staff, focusing on key areas specifics to each individual to ensure the best success and future well-being- De-escalating clients, supporting and empathizing with their anger and the trauma they have been through- Advocating for client needs and wants, and teaching clients how to advocate for themselves, such as teaching professional language, expected behavior and what may come of those conversation to front-load the client for all potential outcomes- Prioritizing non-judgement as the foundation of the field, acknowledging that trauma, schooling, religion, family history, and many other factors impact peoples' lives. I have a Bachelor's of Science, in Psychology from Burman University, and a Human Service Work Diploma from Okanagan College, both of which have been incredibly helpful while working in the Social Work field. Through this education I have learned the following and more- Non-judgment and empathy to prioritize understanding first before and above anything else- Professional documentation and confidential practices to ensure reports of the highest standards and the protection for clients and employees- The effects of trauma, alcohol, drugs, stress and more, on the brain and all forms of development through all ages to understand better the lives of future clients. I am young, engaged, and eager to continue exploring my education and future jobs and careers to best discover how I can benefit others and myself for the foreseeable duture.
