About Ted Duncombe

I am an independent writer and editor currently working on a book about my parents—an Episcopal priest and a social worker—and their lives of community leadership and service against a backdrop of World War II, Civil Rights, the Vietnam War, Women’s Rights, and Indian Self-Determination. Previously, I was a senior writer at Vanguard where for 27 years I wrote external and internal communications about investment management, technology, retirement planning, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and countless other topics. I was also been active in Vanguard’s volunteer programs, including the launch of the MyClassroomEconomy.org financial literacy program. I proposed and led Vanguard’s first corporatewide observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Before joining Vanguard, I was a reporter and editor for The Associated Press, the old Albuquerque (N.M.) Tribune, and The Anniston (Ala.) Star. I am a volunteer and former board member for Healthy NewsWorks, a nonprofit organization that works with elementary and middle school students to develop their powers of inquiry and to enable them to share accurate health information with their community.
