Background
About Ted Heiman
With over 30 years at the forefront of cybersecurity, I have spent my career helping Fortune 100 companies and the DOD deploy cutting-edge security solutions to protect their data, networks, and cloud infrastructure — before most organizations even understood the threats they faced. Today, I serve as CISO of Foedus AI, a $250M-funded enterprise AI infrastructure company where I am architecting the security framework for a national network of 50 purpose-built AI data centers connected via a proprietary mesh network. It is the kind of complex, high-stakes, ground-up security challenge I have spent three decades preparing for. Throughout my career, I have closed landmark security deals and built lasting relationships with some of the world's most demanding organizations — from securing the Department of Defense's Common Access Card program (25M+ cards issued worldwide) to deploying PKI infrastructure for Visa, Tesla, Salesforce, and Southern California Edison. My expertise spans: Enterprise cybersecurity architecture and strategy Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and identity management Cloud security and AI infrastructure Zero-trust frameworks and data sovereignty C-suite advisory and security leadership ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Closed the world's most significant identity management deployment — the Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC) program — while at ActivIdentity (later acquired by HID Global). The program resulted in the initial issuance of 4.5 million biometrics-enabled military IDs, growing to over 25 million cards issued to date, with a total project value exceeding $50 million. The project contributed directly to a $98 million IPO and earned a Gracie Award as the most impactful project delivered to the DOD that year. My contribution was formally recognized in an official DOD letter of recommendation citing my role as critical to the program's success. Drove the deployment of the first online banking solution in the US for Sumitomo Bank while serving at Nortel Networks. Led the first installation of a full-service bank branch (Wells Fargo) into a supermarket chain (Safeway) while at Desktop Products. Featured in a book titled “Stop Selling and Start Leading” through a chapter dedicated to the DoD Common Access Card project.
