Background
About Ted Neil
I am currently the AVP of Operations and Lending Development at Franklin-Somerset FCU. In this role I have the privilege of overseeing branch operations for Franklin-Somerset's five branches. I am able to help our team with their roles in serving our members needs and I'm also able to work directly with our CEO on the overall goals for Franklin-Somerset. My day to day involves a wide variety of tasks, which involves being in the branches, working with members on consumer and real estate loans, I have loan exception authority and as a result work with our lenders to determine if we can help a member in need that might not fit within our policy. I work daily with our team on their training and development, also helping them work through various challenges in the branches. This role also involves the development of new loan products. My path to this position started in a somewhat unorthodox manner. Just before graduating from the University of Maine Farmington in 2009, I started my career as a Police Officer, for the Farmington Police Department. This role taught me many valuable life lessons. Most importantly, how to talk to people in the hardest of situations imaginable and help them through it the best I could. There were many times I found myself having to talk someone in to doing something they didn't want to do. That could be going to the hospital for someone in crisis or going to jail. I found that in most situations, if you talk to people with respect and empathy, you could achieve the best result possible. Being in law enforcement also helped me to better understand the regulatory and fraud side of the finance industry. In 2012, my wife and I had our first child, which led me to evaluate my career choice. In January of 2013 I started at Maine Wood Concepts as their Quality Assurance Coordinator and Prodction Supervisor. This role also taught me a lot of great lessons. It is where I learned how to supervise others, plus work with customers. I always had an interest in the finance industry, but was waiting for the right opportunity. In April of 2020, I was given the opportunity to work for Franklin-Somerset FCU as their Franklin County Team Lead (Regional Manager). As the Team Lead, I was responsible for the management of the three branches in Franklin County. In January of 2024, I was promoted to my current position. Although, I didn't take the typical path to my current position, I feel that each experience I had helped prepare me for where I am today. I love working in the finance industry and am very happy I made the move!
