About Ted Rylander

Thirty-four years ago I visited India for the first time. The year after I took the Trans-Siberian to China. The rest is my history of life long learning and glocal understanding. Most of the 90s and 00s I spent studying and working in China and with China-related projects, as a consultant in sinology, lecturer, travel guide, writer, proofreader, editor, publisher, and teacher in Chinese, English and history. I´m a certified teacher in Chinese and I taught the language at primary and upper secondary schools 2007-2014. I´ve worked for the Swedish National Agency for Education as part of an expert group responsible for formulating a new subject syllabus for the Chinese language. I have also gained experiences as a principal for an Upper Secondary School. As international coordinator, fundraiser and project leader for the Municipal intersectoral project Glocal Sustainable Development and the programme Glocal Schools partnerships were established with municipalities and schools in Asian and South American countries. In these and other projects my focus areas have been sustainable development; IT-development, ethnomathematics; collegial learning; intercultural understanding; and multilingualism. By acting local in spirit and global in character we prepare the next generation for the challenges of a new world. Between 2014 and 2019 I was an advisor at the Municipal Office of Örebro contributing to the municipality´s overall long-term sustainable development. My main area of expertise was school issues. Today I work as an analyst at Region Örebro County focusing on healthcare. Thirty-four years later lifelong learning and glocal understanding is more relevant than ever.
