About Tedd Wimperis
I'm Assistant Professor of Classical Languages at Elon University, in the Department of World Languages and Cultures; my PhD is from UNC-Chapel Hill (completed 2017). I enjoy teaching and writing about all things Greek and Roman, as well as the ancient world's legacy in later historical contexts. My book, Constructing Communities in Vergil's Aeneid (University of Michigan Press, 2024), looks at how the fictional world of that Roman epic poem reflects the politicized use of Roman myth and identity in contemporary propaganda under the emperor Augustus. I've taught Latin from the Elementary to Advanced levels, a bit of Ancient Greek, and courses on various aspects of ancient culture, including ancient ideas about race and identity, mythology, and the representation of antiquity in modern media.
