Background

About Tegan Clark

Hi there! I'm a PhD Candidate at the Fenner School of Environment and Society and a Research Assistant at the Global Institute for Women's Leadership (GIWL), both at the Australian National University. In my PhD, I research Australian dust storms using satellites, and consider how Australia can better prepare for and build resilience against dust storms under a changing climate (check out my latest paper here: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jag.2025.104762). I also conduct research into STEM education, equity and science fiction. If it wasn't already obvious - I love research and often have too many research ideas, and not enough time! I believe that science should be transparent and accessible, and that it is my role as a scientist to communicate my research to the public, but also to translate it into real-world outcomes. You can find me giving public talks around nipaluna/Hobart, or co-hosting radio show/podcast episodes on That's What I Call Science. I am also a climate and gender activist. In 2024, I attended COP29 with Plan International Australia to advocate for gender-responsive climate finance. I'm incredibly passionate about ensuring young people can access these international spaces and am actively working on meaningful youth engagement at COP31. Myself and a group of young women started the Oceania Youth Climate Negotiation Network which aims to upskill young people on international climate negotiations. You can also check out my submission to DCCEEW that I worked on with a group of young people here: any of these topics align with the work you do and you'd like to collaborate, please send me a message! I'm always down for a chat.
