About Teiaro Taikato

Ngati Whakaue | Tauranga Moana | Ngati Raukawa. He uri nō te marumaru o Pukemaire, nō te Kuraitanga o te Ihu o Tamatekapua, nō te awa karikari o Ngātoroirangi, He mokopuna nō Maketu, nō Tauranga Moana. I'm an early career Toi Māori Theatre Practitioner, Creative Producer, Production and Stage Manager. Previously, an educator, youth worker and tiaki taiao advocate, a one-off opportunity as a director for the 2019 Unitec Graduation Show began the shift toward Te Ao Toi. My passion is in connection and merging creative arts with social justice, so that undervalued communities have a means of expression and opportunities to play and create. I am a kaitautoko tumu for Te Pou Theatre and an outreach facilitator for Flock Theatre, servicing the Auckland City Mission. I work predominantly in kaupapa Māori. My most recent productions include ‘The Haka Party Incident’ by Katie Wolfe, ‘Mahuika’ by Amber Curreen, ‘The Frontyard Festival’ by Te Rehia Theatre, ‘Autaia’ and ‘Taurite’ by Hawaiki Tū, ‘Hemo is Home’ by Te Pou Theatre, ‘Kōpū’ by Tuakoi Ohia, ‘Moe Miti’ by Red Leap Theatre and supporting PANNZ Tourmakers in production management with their national tour.
