About Terri Abel

I am a kind sometimes quiet person. I like people of all walks of life. I get along with everyone. I'm not an outspoken person and that has haunted me some in the past; however I have learned from experience to speak up for myself and not let people run over me. I love kids even though I haven't had any of my own. Working and teaching in the school symtem for 20+ plus years has been an experience I've never regreted. To be able to help children learn and grow makes me feel good. It is rewarding to see students that you taught doing well after their years in school. I started out coaching which I loved and still do love. However I decided to put all my attention to teaching and gave up coaching in I still attend sporting events at the school I teach. I currently am a Paraprofessional in the Durham Public School system. I work with students with Intellectual Disabilities and I love it. These students are the greatest. They are smart and have more common sense than most people I know. I love my work and wouldn't trade it for nothing. I like it when a student do work that was given to them and they completed it in the class. It gives them a sense of accomplishment that they worked hard to do themselves. And to see some of them out in the community employed or furthering their education or even raising a family is very rewarding. It lets you know that with a little learning and hard work people can succeed in whatever they want to do. Anything can be accomplished if you put your mind to it.
