There is nothing like growing up on a farm with a family-run feed store attached to build good character and work ethics. Little did I know at the time how that would serve me well as I transitioned to a career in supply and construction. My first realization that my hands-on and work hard upbringing would turn into a benefit was when I became the first woman to be promoted to Yard Supervisor for Furrow Building Materials (also known as Payless Cashways) in Houston. Having proven myself in that arena, it wasn't long before I was able to insert those skills into the world of plumbing as I was asked to collaborate with commercial plumbing contractors, GCs, and purchasing agents who needed help with obtaining plumbing fixtures. It was during that period that I met plumbing contractor Bryon Bills from Afton Incorporated. We quickly appreciated our similarities regarding honest hard work, candor, and determination to, as Larry the Cable Guy would say,"Git-R-Done". It was because of this that it wasn't long before I merged my capabilities into Afton as a project manager. Even though my title hasn't changed much (now Senior Project Manager), my duties most certainly have, and I genuinely enjoy all of which I am responsible. Including ensuring that our GCs can count on me to support their success. To that end, GCs often share three characteristics that they rely on me for:#1 Accuracy - it has to be the right supplies, on time and delivered to the location of choice. Otherwise, work stops, money is lost, and trust erodes. Not on my watch.#2 Promptness - the world of construction is ever-changing, and GCs have to be able to respond on-demand. With that in mind, I am known for looking around corners and seeing what is coming and proactively ensure our GCs have the support they need in advance.#3 Completion - I am flat out determined to finish. As mentioned above,"Git-R-Done" is my mantra and it is my passion to ensure the job is complete.
