About Terrie Anderson

Play is the work of children. I believe that children grow and learn from play, and that play with the adults in their lives is essential. From my years as a teacher and a parent, I recognize the skill development potential in many toys and games. It is one of my favorite things to help toy designers and manufacturers maximize that value and assist in communicating it to parents of the children who play with them. I enjoy seeing how a great product can be used to satisfy learning objectives in the classroom. I write lessons and curriculum that address state and national standards and benchmarks. I also have experience evaluating how curricula satisfies those standards. My civic involvement is a significant part of my life. I am a board member on the Northside Planning Council. We have undertaken our biggest project yet in the Food Enterprise and Economic Development Kitchens-a shared-use food processing kitchen and business incubator to help users grow food businesses, expand their work against hunger and to bring local fresh food to more people. The FEED Kitchen is currently under construction and will be open in the fall of 2013. Very excited! I participate on the Board of Directors at Community GroundWorks, which is responsible for the operations of Troy Gardens, a mixed-use development consisting of an urban farm producing community shared agriculture shares, a Kids Garden offering programming utilized by over children per year, over 300 community garden plots, a restored prairie, an edible woodland, and a 30-unit co-housing community.
