About Terry Ayling

Terry’s roles, over the last twelve (12) years, include as Spiritual Care Coordinator of Palliative Care Queensland; Spiritual Care Coordinator of Gold Coast Health (GCH); and Spiritual Care Coordinator of Hopewell Hospice Services. He is a champion for ‘compassion in healthcare’ with a specific interest in ‘compassion at-the-end-of-life’. In work spanning thirty (30) plus years with dying people and bereaved, families and children, communities and workplaces, Terry has developed keen skills in compassionate listening and the exercise of deep wisdom. He has regularly facilitated groups and led small and large rituals (including funerals & weddings) and events (including forums & workshops. Terry currently offers his services as a Professional Supervisor and as a volunteer Interspiritual Care Practitioner. After 25 years as a Uniting Church Minister and Chaplain in community, school, tourism, residential aged care, hospital and hospice settings, Terry resigned to expand his work in the growing secular,'spiritual not religious' context. He has been an active participant and proponent in the interfaith, multicultural and progressive Christian movement, including as former Facilitator of GCH Interfaith Council and on the Executive of the Gold Coast Multifaith Advisory and Action Group (MAAG). He also participates with the Queensland Faith Communities Council (QFCC) & United Religions International (URI). Terry plays an active lead role in the global Charter for Compassion, serving as the Australian Compassion Council's (ACC) Lead, as well as Compassionate Cities Lead, and Compassionate Gold Coast Facilitator, within their Vision of ‘Deep Dreaming Australia – A Continent for Compassion’. He has trained as a Compassion Circles & Community Connector with the Global Compassion Coalition (GCC) A spiritual-entrepreneur, Terry is also Founder and Creative Director of Spirited Communities Pty Ltd, a consultancy firm, working in social enterprise, community creation and animation and values-led mission-planning since 2002. With Terry’s depth of spiritual maturity, breadth of experience and, passion at the height of his career, he possesses a unique set of talents and perspectives which enable him to meet (indeed, exceed) expectations of any future role he may serve in.
