Background
About Terry Carl
I am the lead ADCS/GNC for EOI, getting their VLEO imaging constellation to fly. I previously was the GN & C lead for Blue Canyon’s Venus bus line and led multiple satellite programs there, including two on-orbit. I led internal R&D efforts for implementing CMGs in flight & simulation software for a new small bus design, as well as drag/SRP modelling. The past couple of years I have been focused on internal R&D efforts, including CMG control, larger bus designs, and orbit determination filters. I was the acting navigation lead for the Dream Chaser program, and created Simulink autocoded algorithms for flight moding, ground testing, and blended air data. I modified and implemented GPS and SIGI C++ models. I wrote guidance algorithms as well as flight sequencing for several rocket vehicles. I have written Monte Carlo 6DoF simulations for multiple vehicles and developed several subsystem models. I led the hardware in the loop testing for the ALIRBM program that I was the GN & C lead for, which was a large parachute-extracted air-launched target rocket. I also wrote a large amount of C++ flight software for the same program. I have interacted with multiple test ranges for flight safety documentation and data deliveries for several rocket programs. Much of my experience has been with solid-fueled rockets, lifting body reentry, and microsat-class satellites, and it would be exciting to have the opportunity to be more involved in the early growth of a department and company.Throughout my career I have enjoyed supervising/mentoring many junior engineers. The four years that I was the lead of the ALIRBM program at Orbital involved mentoring and leading younger engineers on my program, as well as scheduling and cost accounting. Four of the five engineers that worked for me on the ALIRBM program went on to be program leads themselves.I have had a passion for the aerospace industry since I was young, and always wanted to work on rockets, spacecraft, or aircraft. In my free time, I have enjoyed flying and building remote controlled airplanes and helicopters and tinkering with them, as well as various outdoor physical activities. Cycling has been good avenue for building perseverance, and backcountry skiing has built risk management skills.
