About Terry Dopson

Background-Language Arts Teacher at Kraemer Middle School; I teach our college prep students and our GATE magnet students-Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning from the University of La Verne -California Single Subject Credential in English -Supplemental Authorization in Drama -9 years of experience working with students at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Teaching Philosophy: I am passionate about creating a positive and organized learning environment where students not only build their literacy skills for college and career readiness, but also find their voices to become their most authentic selves. One thing I have enjoyed so much about my career has been the opportunity to teach a wide variety of students in terms of abilities and demographics. This experienced has allowed me to develop a sense of agility in lesson planning, classroom management, student engagement and authentic assessment: I tailor these cornerstones of the classroom according to the needs and personalities of my students. Overall, my goal is to develop a warm and welcoming classroom that allows me to build trust with my students and build their academic and life skills along the way. Teaching English Language Arts is a combination of all of my skills and interests: working with students and families, building communication skills, exploring empathy and creativity, organizing and planning, and implementing technology. Finally, I also have a passion for being part of campus life. Whether it be serving on committees to drive the mission of the school forward, or dancing with my fellow faculty members in school assemblies, I love planting my roots and creating a sense of home. I am excited to continue working at Kraemer Middle School and the Placentia Yorba Linda Unified School District both inside the classroom and outside the classroom. I am excited to continue reflecting on my practice and finding ways to serve my students, my teammates, and my community.
