About Tess Flood

I am a researcher interested in female physiology and the impact of ovarian hormone profiles including the menstrual cycle, hormonal contraceptives and menopause in sport and exercise science. I currently work at the University of West London supporting the development of a new sport and exercise science department as a laboratory technician alongside supporting teaching and research. Previously, I was a postdoc in female endocrinology and exercise physiology at Manchester Metropolitan University working with Professor Kirsty Elliott-Sale. My research focused on the effect of ovarian hormones during the menstrual cycle and in oral contraceptive users on sporting performance and improving methodological quality in research involving ovarian hormones. I completed my PhD at the University of Chichester in September 2022, my thesis explored indirect markers of heat injury following exercise in uncompensable heat stress in men and women. Prior to starting my PhD I worked in the Occupational Performance Research Group (OPRG) at the University of Chichester contributing to the delivery of projects funded by the Ministry of Defence and UK Emergency Services. I have an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Physiology from St Marys University Twickenham and a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Brighton.
