Muscle loss and fat loss occurs in several types of cancer. Cancer patients with severe cachexia often display a lower response to treatment and bad prognosis. Indeed, we estimate that 30% of patients with solid tumors die directly because of cachexia. My current goal is to understand the molecular mechanisms that trigger cancer cachexia and find new therapeutic targets to insure a better outcome for cancer patients.
