About Thandi Fletcher

I’m a communications strategist and former journalist with nearly two decades of experience helping leaders and institutions build trust, strengthen reputation, and tell stories that matter. Currently, I serve as Manager of Reputation and Leadership Strategy at the University of British Columbia, where I specialize in securing media coverage for innovative institutional initiatives in local, national and international outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, and the Globe and Mail. I am also the speechwriter for UBC's President and Vice-Chancellor. As a former journalist, I reported for major daily Canadian newspapers, including The Province and Calgary Herald. During my time as the recipient of the Michelle Lang Fellowship in Journalism, I produced a national investigative series on the barriers breast cancer patients face in accessing reconstructive surgery in Canada. In addition to my professional role, I am a PhD student in Educational Studies at the University of British Columbia. My research is focused on the ethical dimensions of freedom of expression and academic freedom in the Canadian higher education context.
