Background
About Thea Chassin
As the Founder and CEO of Bald Girls Do Lunch®, I’m driven by a deep passion to end the shame, stigma, and secrecy surrounding alopecia areata (AA). This condition can be a debilitating burden, leading to daily anxiety or depression for those who feel they must hide it. My mission is to empower women with AA to take control of their lives and embrace their unique beauty, fostering a sense of normalcy and acceptance for the female bald look.My journey began with my own experience of AA when I experienced a mixed group setting that didn’t meet my needs. In searching for support, I realized the importance of a welcoming and focused environment. My educational background in physical therapy and environmental design taught me that everyone’s journey is unique, even if they share the same diagnosis. I knew there had to be a better way to find the support I needed. That’s why I started the lunch gatherings—intimate, supportive events where women can connect, share, and grow. When I sent out the first invitation, the response was overwhelming: “If it’s lunch and only women, I’ll be there!” This confirmed what I had suspected all along: women with AA needed a space that was just for them.Bald Girls Do Lunch specializes in fostering camaraderie and creating a safe space for women and teen girls to share their experiences. We focus on practical ways to discuss alopecia, educating others based on their ability to process new information. The goal is for each participant to leave with at least one new strategy to overcome the challenges they face.Bald Girls Do Lunch isn’t about promoting the bald look as a goal. Bald isn’t for everyone, and we celebrate women at all ages and stages of AA, including those experiencing regrowth. Attendees are encouraged to be comfortable and come as they like—whether in wigs, hats, scarves, or au naturale. Our mission is to support each woman in her unique journey and help her find confidence in her chosen appearance. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than witnessing the transformation in a woman’s face and body language when she meets another person with AA for the first time—sometimes after decades of feeling isolated. I am passionate about helping women with alopecia areata accept themselves and confidently say, “I have alopecia.”Join us to discover a community where you can be yourself, find empowerment, and redefine what beauty means to you. Together, we can change the narrative around alopecia areata and help women everywhere live more confidently and authentically.Contact: Thea@BaldGirlsDoLunch.org
