About Theodore Butcher-Cornet

As a PhD student at the University of Queensland, I investigate the nature and implications of Indigenous-state/territory treaty processes recently initiated across Australia, with a view to understand their potential in transforming First Nations-settler state political relations. However, my research interests also include economic and social right issues relevant to the contemporary Australian policy landscape, the rise of post-neoliberal movements in the wake of the global financial and Covid-19 crises, as well as the resurgence of traditional and innovative socio-economic concepts. Prior to undertaking my PhD, I completed a Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne, during which I carried out research on Indigenous self-determination and land repatriation movements taking place in settler-colonial societies. In parallel, I worked as a Project Officer at Aboriginal Victoria (Department of Premier and Cabinet) and as a Research Assistant at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS). Before that, I practiced as a lawyer in France in a number of companies and law firms.
