About Theodore Smith

I am currently the Assistant City Proescutor for the City of Pasadena. I have held this position since July of 2019. I assist the Assistant Chief Proecutor Michael Dowd in the management of the Criminal Division as well as handle the operational aspects of filing and prosecution of misdemeanor and municipal code violations. I used to be a Deputy District Attorney for the County of San Bernardino at the Rancho Cucamonga office. I am a line deputy and therefore have experience in assessing whether to file a criminal case, determine further investigation, pre-trial and trial motions. I have extensive experience in preliminary hearings, pre-trial motions such as motion to suppress and "995's" and actual jury trials. I am currently doing all of the preliminary hearing out of one of the three "pre pre" courts as well as the Proposition 47 reviews for determination to reduce felonies to misdemeanors. In addition, in previous positions in the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office and in private practice, I have civil experience, in discovery, pre-trial motions and trials in both state and federal courts. In those positions I primarily defended municipalities and in particular police agencies such as the LAPD. Lastly, I also did administrative boards in the protection of LAPD officers representing these officers through the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL). In all of my positions the need to work with others and convince judges and juries of your position is primary, and one I enjoy. The ability to spot factual and legal issues and solve them as well as convince judges and juries of your position translates to various industries other than just legal work.
