About Therese Cottrell

I have been a nurse since 1977. I have worked at Columbus Hospital in 1977-1979 in Buffalo, NY. I then returned to my home town and worked for the Genesee Hospital in Rochester, NY as an ICU Nurse. From there I went to Ohio State University Hospital, and helped develop the GYN Oncology Unit. I am proud to say that the unit went form a 4 bed to a 28 bed Unit. I returned to Rochester, NY and worked at Highland Hospital, on a medical oncology floor for 1 year. Public Health Nursing got a hold of me, and I worked for the Health Department for 4 years as a Nurse, both a Hospice Nurse and part of the MOTT Program, in which I was responsible for educating pregnant and new mothers, under 16, about the care of their newborns. From there I went into nursing in the ED at SMH as an RN and obtained my Masters Degree. I was part of the development of the NP program, along with my 2 peers in 1993, and worked in the ED for 25 years, thoroughly loving it. The 3 shift demand that was initiated by the higher ups after 25 years at that point of my career, which require me to look for another position. For having teenagers at that point, demanded that. Now I work for Strong Memorial Hospital with the Anesthesia Department, in the Center for Perioperative Medicine, as a Family Nurse Practitioner, clearing people for anesthesia, for their upcoming surgery. I thoroughly love my job now, and am proud to work for the Department of Anesthesia.
