About Thilo Schweizer

Since August 2023, Thilo Schweizer is Commerzbank’s Head of Public Affairs based in Berlin. In his capacity he is responsible for the bank’s entire public affairs operations, consisting of the two departments “Issue Management & Liaison Offices” and “Reputational Risk Management”. Thilo’s team is based in Berlin, Brussels, Frankfurt and Washington, D.C. He builds on his experiences as Commerzbank's Head of European Affairs. During his time in Brussels (2018-2023), he was responsible for the relations to the institutions of the European Union, the offices of the EU member states, trade associations and other financial institutions. Before moving to Brussels, Thilo had been seconded to the Institute of International Finance (IIF), Washington D.C, where he was a Policy Advisor in the Regulatory Affairs Department (2012-2018). During his six years at the IIF he was primarily working on cross-border resolution issues and on proposals for the international regulation of asset managers (NBFIs). Prior to joining the IIF, Thilo was a relationship manager in Commerzbank’s Corporates & Markets division, responsible for public-sector clients. In this capacity, he worked to enhance client relations with the German state-level and federal governments, as well as with institutions of the European Union. In his advisory role at Commerzbank, Thilo built on ten years of experience working with the institution’s Equity Capital Markets department, where he was responsible for the Steel & Capital Goods sector and for the coordination with Commerzbank’s subsidiary in Poland. Thilo facilitated transactions for clients including ThyssenKrupp AG, Linde AG and Grupa Lotos S.A. Before joining Commerzbank in 2001, Thilo served as assistant to the CEO at Stadtsparkasse Köln, Germany’s largest municipal savings bank, before transferring to its Corporate Finance Department. Thilo received his diploma in Economics and a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Cologne.
