About Thom Sellers

One of my favorite authors, Robert Heinlein once wrote, “. Specialization is for insects." What he meant by that was that humans should be good at many things, not just great at one thing. That sentiment stuck with me and is a reflection on how I live my life, personally and professionally. Professionally, that has meant making myself into a jack-of-all trades in the technical world. The result is that I have a long, varied background in many information technology disciplines. I like to compare my skill set to that of a pocket knife. I have many tools that I can use in one convenient package. Why lug a toolbox everywhere when you can carry a pocket knife?In my most recent posting I was given great autonomy to shape the business. I decided the direction we were headed, technically. My decisions improved my company's bottom line. IT became viewed as an asset. I want to make my organization a better place. I take great pride in it.Another thing that is important to know about me is that I believe people are what matter in this world. I love helping people, interacting with them, and discovering things about them. I want to enrich the lives of people around me at home and in the workplace, and I can only hope it shows.I am a learner for life and have grown into and surpassed every position I've had. Admittedly, I have felt lucky at times. But I thrived when faced with new challenges.
