About Thomas A. Kligerman

Thomas A. Kligerman was raised in Connecticut and New Mexico, and spent years in France and England as a student. These experiences sparked his interest in the rich history of domestic architecture, gardens and landscapes. Before co-founding Ike Kligerman Barkley, Tom worked for Robert A. M. Stern Architects. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and his Master of Architecture from Yale School of Architecture. He is passionate about the design process, and loves studying and creating architectural models. IKB is known nationally and internationally and has been published in magazines such as Architectural Digest, Veranda, Luxe, Elle Décor and House Beautiful. IKB has been a member of Architectural Digest’s AD100 since 1995. Tom has served on the board of several charitable and educational institutions and is the current president of The Sir John Soane's Museum Foundation. In the past year, Tom has participated on numerous panels across the country to promote IKB’s second book, The New Shingled House. He lectures regularly; recent topics include the cultural and architectural history of Cuba, the influence of the Shingle Style in American design as well as the intersection of modern and traditional architecture. Tom recently returned from Italy where he was studying at the American Academy in Rome as a Visiting Scholar. He has spent summers in Weekapaug since 1967.
