About Thomas Altig

I've spent about a decade in IT, much of it in K–12 education, before making a cross-country move in March 2023 to join Starbucks in a Manufacturing Infrastructure Resilience role. Our team supports around 2,500 end users and the IT infrastructure behind all the coffee Starbucks roasts, packages, and distributes across North America and China, with secondary support for EMEA manufacturing operations. My current focus includes supporting Windows Server environments (2012–2025), contributing to datacenter operations, and providing infrastructure support for critical manufacturing systems like Aveva Oasis and MES. I’m actively leading efforts to reshape Active Directory architecture and RBAC security practices for our manufacturing environments, and I drive a quarterly privileged access review process across our supply chain footprint. In 2025, I’ve been especially focused on documentation and process improvement—streamlining workflows, improving knowledge sharing, and helping ensure our systems are not just technically sound, but intuitive and sustainable. I’m a strong advocate for human-centric design principles in infrastructure support, aiming to make complex systems more accessible for frontline users and cross-functional teams.
