About Thomas Ayling

Ever since I began programming in C# at school, I've wanted to work in software. The combination of logical problem-solving and translating ideas into code aligns perfectly with my strengths and passions. When I was 15, I shadowed a software engineer at I2 Group, where I discovered the social and engaging aspects of the role. I am committed to leveraging technology to enhance everyday lives and have always felt a strong desire to pursue meaningful work. I chose to study physics at university to gain a deeper understanding of the world and how mathematics and programming can address challenges of all scales. In my first year, I learned to use Python libraries like NumPy, Matplotlib, and SciPy for data analysis and scientific modelling. I furthered my skills through computing projects in image recognition and machine learning during my second and third years. After completing my studies, I took a gap year to broaden my horizons and build my confidence. I spent six months solo travelling in South America, where I studied up to A2 Brazilian Portuguese at Caminhos Language school in Rio de Janeiro. I also studied Spanish at VOS Buenos Aires adding to my passion for languages that began with French and German in school. Traveling solo was a significant challenge, but it greatly enhanced my independence and initiative. I am now ready to commit to a long-term role and excited to launch my career as a graduate software developer.
