About Thomas Barresi

As a case manager with the Queensland Corrective Services, I worked with individuals on community correction orders. Through short interviews and assessment, I assisted individuals on probation and parole orders to address past behaviour and to create a more positive future. In addition, I compiled reports for internal review and court briefing, and engaged with community stakeholders. During this work I encountered people from a diverse array of backgrounds and facing a range of challenges, for which I maintained engaging in with an effective and friendly manner. I have learned to be assertive when necessary, kind where appropriate, and direct in my speech. With a psychology honours, I have experience in research skills, undertaking a personal research project which required both an extensive investigation into past literature and data, and managing an experimental design study. The skills I learned in counselling were further developed during my time at Queensland Corrective Service to include a trauma informed framework to best accommodate people dealing with trauma and suffering. I am self-publisher, having published a novel and short story. During this process I managed business needs and engaged contract work. The writing side of this undertaking required creative exploration of topics and synthesis of multiple possible outcomes, selecting optimal routes. In editing, I assess with a critical eye the needs of the project to ensure that everything falls within the mission scope. I have further experience having co-published for a University of Melbourne student magazine. As the project manager, I maintained project deadlines and communicated team needs. Further work in digital freelance services sees me engaging with clients to develop a presentation of their needs and desires, while working within professional boundaries and timelines.
