About Thomas Britton

Having grown up on a cattle station outside Boulia, Thomas’s strong work ethic was founded on long days on the station, assisting with all aspects of its operation from a very young age. Working as a young child in an adult-centric environment enabled Thomas to develop a mature approach to communication and managing people. Thomas discovered his passion for construction during his first job after high school. Having taken on a position as a Concrete Laborer with Boulia Council working 11 day fortnights whilst working on the property the remaining three days, Thomas was exposed to all aspects of construction and decided to pursue a Boilermaker’s apprenticeship. Always a long term planner, Thomas set his sights on leaving Boulia at the age of 18 to start his apprenticeship, which he did at Pacific Marine Group in Townsville. On completion of his apprenticeship, Thomas had a 1 year break where he returned to Boulia before returning to Pacific Marine Group where within six months, he was offered the opportunity to be mentored and trained into the position of Construction Manager as a part of the company’s succession plan. Thomas eagerly accepted this opportunity, however, only 18 months later, he was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. Having made every attempt to return to full capacity as an on-site supervisor, it became apparent that this would not be possible in a marine environment, so Thomas made the decision to take his construction career in a new direction and attend university to study engineering. Initially Thomas enrolled in a Diploma of Higher Education (Engineering) in 2016 to ensure he had the understanding of the discipline required to complete a Bachelor Degree. Having completed the Diploma (GPA 5.5) at the beginning of 2017 Thomas started a Bachelor of Engineering at James Cook University that same year, graduating in 2019 with a Major in Civil Engineering and a Minor in Planning and Infrastructure with Class 2A Honors. Six months before graduating Thomas applied for and gained a position with Clough (Brisbane) which he started at the beginning of 2020 and is where he worked for a year and a half on Tenders as a Project Engineer while undertaking the companies three year graduate program. Currently Thomas is working as a Temporary Site Engineer for the WeBuild - Clough - Lane Joint Venture known as Future Generation working on the Snowy 2.0 Project.
