About Thomas Christopoulos

I received my diploma in Electrical Engineering and my Ph.D. from the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), in April 2014 and November 2019, respectively. My doctoral thesis focused on nonlinear resonant nanophotonic, plasmonic, and graphene structures, with special focus on Optical Bistability and Degenerated Four-Wave Mixing. I worked as a postdoctoral researcher with the Photonics Group (ECE - AUTH), in close collaboration with the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) until 2024. I am now a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the Laboratoire Photonique Numérique et Nanosciences (LP2N) in Talence, France. My research interests include: novel nonlinear phenomena in photonics, plasmonics, and contemporary 2D materials (graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, hexagonal boron nitride, MXenes); modeling and design of linear and nonlinear components and devices using numerical approaches (coupled-mode theory, CMT); photonic and plasmonic nanoresonators, with a special interest on the computational analysis of leaky systems and quasi-normal modes (QNMs); integrated optical silicon-on-insulator devices; computational electromagnetics with an emphasis on finite elements method (FEM) and modal techniques; metamaterials and metasurfaces in microwave, THz, infrared, and optical frequencies.
