About Thomas Crompton

Hello there! I’m Thomas, and for the past two decades, I’ve been lucky enough to turn my passion for teaching into a rewarding career. My journey has provided me with the opportunity to hone my skills in diverse educational contexts from South Korea to Poland, and now, the UAE. I’m currently a General Studies Faculty member at Abu Dhabi Women’s College, specializing in Professional and Academic Communication, Academic Reading and Writing, and Research Methods. Leading our Professional Communication course team, I coordinate faculty, develop course materials, and manage assessments with a focus on student success. Over the years, I've also managed the Academic Success Center, gaining valuable experience in leadership, recruitment, marketing, and tutor training. Holding an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from the University of Nottingham, I emphasize a teaching philosophy that prioritizes building strong relationships with students. A relaxed and respectful classroom environment can make all the difference in effective language learning. I’ve mastered various software tools, including Office 365, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom, while integrating Blackboard, Nearpod, and video production software like Camtasia into my teaching toolkit. This tech proficiency ensures I can create dynamic and engaging learning experiences, whether in person or virtually. In my free time, I'm an enthusiastic triathlete, believing that physical activity complements mental wellness and productivity. I also have a deep interest in intercultural communication, exploring new cultures through travel, arts, reading, and cooking. I’d love to connect and discuss how we can innovate and inspire in the realm of education!
