About Thomas Defrees

Hello! Thank you for taking some time out of your valuable time to get to know me. I am a resident of Utica in southern Indiana who was born and raised in Kentucky in and around the Louisville area. I'm a late bloomer in my young profession accounting career after spending my first 20 years in the work force as an Apple computer repair expert and certified trainer with Best Buy and the Geek Squad. I decided I wanted more financial freedom in life and decided to return college. With family and friends having successful careers in the accounting field, I decided to set net goals for myself.I returned to college at Spalding University in 2013 an graduated in 2017 with a Bachelors in Accounting degree. I was eager and ambitious grow my knowledge, skills, and roles in the accounting field. Spent time at ADP learning how 5500 reports were processed and gaining in-depth knowledge or the employee/employer retirement systems and procedures. Confluent Health offered me the opportunity to learn and grow my accounts receivable skillset. At ID & A, I continued my career growth as a Staff Accounting, learning numerous aspects of organizational accounting. River Ridge was an opportunity to work very close to home and for a highly rated organization responsible for redevelopment of an old Army Depot in a mega economic output engine with an estimated impact of $2.7 billion in 2021. Today, I am lucky and grateful to work for the largest Woman-owned electrical sub-contract in the Louisville, KY market. I was hired on to help organize and manage the accounting department as the Sr. Accounting Mgr. Another untimely event presented me the opportunity to step-up and fulfill the controller duties shortly after starting with AES. Today, we has the strongest accounting team in the region that can meet the needs of the growing business. We are learning, tackling new challenges, finding new business, and developing a road map for continuous success as a team. My plans don't end now. I'm currently enrolled back at Spalding University with 5 courses remaining to achieve obtaining my MBA. I've joined numerous organizations to continue expanding my skillsets. Next after my MBA completion with be gaining my Construction Finance Management Accountant (CFMA) credentials. The future is bright and I hope to make an positive impact with everyone I work with in the future and watch others succeed with me.
