About Thomas Demko

Tom is a Sr. Vice President in CannonDesign's Pittsburgh Office, responsible for the implementation of Cannon Design's strategic plan in the region. As a programmer, planner, and project manager for healthcare, ambulatory care, and commercial projects, it is his responsibility to conceive of an architectural direction that strengthens and conveys each client’s mission. By understanding the business drivers in an ever-changing business environment, he develops business solutions that reflect the future state of an organization, and translates that future state into design solutions that return exceptional value to clients. Tom believes design is a holistic solution to business that incorporates aesthetics as part of a larger strategy that reflects brand identity, workflow, and the creation of a workplace culture that moves the mission forward. He has been a team leader in adopting Lean implementation into the design process to create a more effective culture that produces exceptional design and returns great value to clients. Tom has been an adjunct educator in the Department of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University, and has been a speaker at professional venues and presentations on the need to incorporate integrated delivery and Lean thinking into the design profession. Design process improvement is Tom’s passion - moving the practice of design toward a model where design solutions are recognized as value added to our clients’ business models.
