About Thomas Deucher

When looking back at history we quantify time periods as the stone age or bronze age. The same is true with the current silicon revolution. We recognize the importance of materials by attributing entire technological time periods towards them, yet the true gravity of materials science and engineering is not grasped. I entered the field of materials science and engineering to meet the limiting factor in the progression of technology, granting the largest challenges, yet greatest rewards. My most valuable asset is determination mixed with a child’s stubbornness and resilience. My passions encompass the symbiosis of design and understanding of first principles science. I have extensive knowledge regarding SiC and UHTCs with Battelle through co-inventorship on a patent-pending novel technique of applying Thermal Protection Systems. Additionally, my work with SiC spans additive manufacturing of aerospace components with Purdue and semiconductor fabrication and packaging for extreme environments and high-sensitivity sensing with NASA. Currently, this experience is allowing me to contribute to SpaceX’s mission to occupy Mars. With predictability being a cornerstone of science and engineering, the same can be applied to myself and the quality of work I provide.
