About Thomas Dickson

As a GP working in Prahran I am passionate about providing care to the LGBTQIAP+ community of which I am a member. I am a fellow of the RACGP and have completed a BA in Psychology, BSc in Biomedicine, MBBS, MMed in Sexual and Reproductive Health. I am a member of ASHM as an S100 HIV prescriber, AUSPATH providing gender affirming care and the Rainbow Network. Over the years I have completed further studies in psychological therapies including understandings in CBT/ACT/Schema modalities. As part of the Masters with the University of Sydney I did further coursework in sex therapy and am particularly interested in the interplay of sexual dysfunction, mental health, societal norms and queerness. My primary aim as a clinician is to empower my patients to assert their agency and autonomy, allowing them access care without marginalisation. Supporting patients as a GP is a privileged role that allows me to empower patients with knowledge and inspire them towards their health goals. I am engaged in teaching both medical students, with Monash University and GP Registrars as a visiting lecturer on the topic of LGBTQIA+ health and the importance of nonjudgemental care. For over a decade I have worked with LGBTQIA organisations both medical and not-for-profit and I believe my passions and expertise will allow me to effectively teach medical students equipping them with the skills required to care for my I have worked in many assorted goverance roles, including as a board director and company secretary for a children's charity, The Ashintosh Foundation.
