About Thomas Doherty

I am currently employed as a structural design engineer for Bolton & Menk, Inc. I began working here in January 2021 as part of the structural team primarily designing bridge abutments, piers, prestressed beams, and reinforced concrete slabs. From January 2019 through January 2021, I was a junior structural engineer at Uni-Systems Engineering in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I had the great opportunity to be able to work on the country's cutting edge professional sports stadiums as well as state-of-the-art amusement park rides during my two years there. My responsibilities there included steel and aluminum structural design as well as concrete footing design. I was involved with both design of the global structural system using as well as local connection design through hand calculations performed in Mathcad as well as Finite Element Analysis using Solidworks Simulation. I also had the opportunity to work at the company's warehouse in Brooklyn Park, MN frequently to help oversee assembly of multiple projects as well as to experience the assembly of amusement projects myself. I also organized the shipping of one amusement project from our shop in Brooklyn Park across the country by truck. Prior to my first full time position out of college, I have had internships with Pie Consulting and Engineering as well as with the City of Minneapolis Public Works department. In these roles, I have learned the skills and trades of forensic engineering as well as concrete site testing and site observation. I graduated from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities with a bachelor's of science in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering in 2019. I have been registered as an Engineer In Training (EIT) by the state of Minnesota since June of 2019.
