A distributed model of leadership is based upon a mutual promise towards capacity building and talent management. It has a number of key features:1. Distributed leadership is primarily concerned with improving the effectiveness of others’ competencies, based on their strengths. Competencies are behaviors that encompass the knowledge, skills, and attributes required for successful performance. In addition to intelligences and aptitudes, the underlying characteristics of a person, such as traits, habits, motives, social roles, and self-image, as well as the environment around them, enable a person to deliver superior performance in a given job, role, or situation.2. Distributed leadership is inclusive and implies broad based involvement in leadership practices.4. Distributed leadership does not mean everybody leads but rather that everybody has the potential to lead, at some time.5. Distributed leadership occurs in various patterns, there is no blueprint.6.
