About Thomas Eckert

With over ten years of working in research administration and financial management, I have gained experience and knowledge in research, research support and research finance, project management, human resource management and strategic development. Having learned the trade from the bottom up, I use my skills to promote, develop and deliver effective and innovative solutions that advance the strategic goals and initiatives of my organization. I have practical experience in managing academic research portfolios, institutes, and programs at the pre- and post-award stages. I also have technical and analytical experience in planning, managing and executing scientific research studies with a background in environmental science and analytical biogeochemistry. I have built a reputation for collaborative and successful working relationships, actively listening to the needs of my colleagues, faculty and administrators. With my scientific training and project management experience, I always considered myself a ‘second-row scientist’ who thrives when supporting researchers in all aspects of their academic endeavours. I have enjoyed a progressive career taking on administrative roles with increasing responsibilities and developing a comprehensive understanding of academic training and research, funded through federal, provincial, and municipal grants and private sector contracts in post-secondary institutions.
