About Thomas Eckrich

As a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a BS in Computer Engineering and a certificate in Quantum Computing and Quantum Information, I enter the workforce as a strong candidate for a role in both HPC and quantum computing. At NSF NCAR, I have had the opportunity to lead my own research investigation aligned with my passion for quantum computing and high-performance computing. As team captain for the student cluster competitions at the SC24 & ISC25 conferences, my internship at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center has helped me improve my leadership and management skills. As part of the team I have learned much about system administration, and have had insightful experiences with research applications. I enjoy building things- I am interested in woodworking and 3D printing in my spare time. I particularly like woodturning on my lathe. Fixing inconveniences with self designed 3D parts is also another one of my favorite maker joys. I'm a big baseball nerd. I enjoy most of the major U.S. sports, but I always have had a special spot for baseball. I love both the analytics and the analogue aspects of the game. I'm a computer nerd at all levels. I always love to talk about what I get to do and learn. It is not just a job but a passion for me. My goal for 2025 is to secure an entry level position in HPC system administration, or begin my career in quantum computing.
