About Thomas Fastner

Whether I was competing in an Ironman fighting the elements or bringing data to life for my customer, I follow the mantra “Prepare for the unknown, stay focused on the goal”. And dealing with data is complex! Throughout my career working in the roles of consultant, sales, engineering, CTO, and as a customer, I have cultivated a strong passion for the world of Data and Analytics, dedicating my expertise to crafting and implementing cutting-edge analytical solutions that propel businesses forward. I have earned recognition as a distinguished authority in Teradata, High Availability, Data Management, Performance/Workload Management, Operational Excellence and as a public speaker. After studying Computer Science at TUM (ranked #66 globally), I started in Data Management for Dornier/German Aerospace, before joining Teradata – a life changing event – consulting with customers in finance, retail and e-business. During my time at eBay, I worked on the largest, most complex and Avant-guard ecosystem, contributing to several innovations as we implemented one of the first Logical Data Warehouses (Gartner). As CTO for the Teradata database, I led large project on high availability and cloud features, and more recently, as an architect, I drove adoption of the VantageCloud Lake offering. I am known for my collaborative leadership style, with a knack for breaking down intricate business objectives into actionable components and creating solutions that not only meet but exceed customer expectations. No matter what condition hit you during an Ironman race, you must cross the finish line to earn it: “You are an Ironman!”. My primary goal is to introduce the limitless possibilities of Analytics and AI to individuals and organizations, enabling them to achieve their objectives and contribute to the betterment of our planet.
