About Thomas Frengler

Technology makes me excited! That's the shortest, easiest and most accurate summary I can come up with. I have managed to work my way into having a career in IT through sheer enthusiasm and talent. But also - and this is crucial - if my colleagues at the time had not given me the chance I wouldn't be where I am today either (you know who are). My strengths as a tester is the technical aspect, and I consider myself as much an engineer as a tester. I love getting my hands dirty by designing and writing code that empowers a test team to easily maintain and write scenarios, but that also fits the software being developed and can adapt easily to constant additions and changes. The end result should be the ability to find bugs early and ensure that existing functionality keeps working as expected with each release. To this day I have worked as a software tester across multiple companies and projects, focusing primarily on implementating automation testing often from the ground up or refactoring or further developing existing solutions. At the time of writing I have written half a dozen automation frameworks from scratch in Javascript, Coldfusion and C# for both desktop- and web-applications. On top of that I have contributed to software development directly by fixing bugs and also by writing internal tools used for testing and/or debugging during the development process. For some mysterious reason lost to the mists of time, I never took an education in IT back in the day. It wasn't until I started working as a helpdesk employee that I went down this road. Although a higher level of technical knowledge and programming wasn't required for my job, I found that it greatly enhanced my ability to do my work well, while also making it more exciting in the process. This excitement carried over to my free time where I taught myself programming, writing web applications and eventually low level applications.
