Background

About Thomas Hutin

In the summer of 2020, I worked at the Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety as ananalytical technician in the dosimetry department. I performed my analyses on two dosimetry technologies, TLD (thermoluminescent dosimeter) and NEUTRON. This combined my skill sets in chemistry and microscopy. Thanks to my engineering background and an eagerness to provide value to the company, I was able to work on my own rather quickly. I was charged with analyzing dosimeters per month and was consistently deemed a viable asset by the leadership team. In France, I followed a 2-year training course as a Physical Measurement Technician, where I was able to improve my skills in materials, mechanics, chemistry and electronics. I did an internship at the end of my DUT at the DGA Propellant Testing Department; where I studied, and then gave advice on how to optimise the use of hygrometric probes in test benches through a summary sheet of my work. Each week I presented my findings at a meeting with representatives from all of the company's sectors, in order to discuss the hygrometry problems present on site. During my 5 semesters at the UTC, I followed courses providing me with knowledge in strength of materials, vibratory mechanics, technical drawings, manufacturing techniques, fluid mechanics, electronics, mechanical design and signal processing. I did a 6 month internship as an assistant engineer at NTN SNR Roulements in Annecy. There I developed a tool for vibration measurement and predictive diagnosis, which was used on bearings in a test bench. To propel this project to completion, I was in communication with various departments and I supported the test technicians in their roles. In addition to the aforementioned experience, I have also had several seasonal jobs within SAFRAN Aircraft Engine in fuel regulator assembly workshops. I was able to observe the different problems that arise during part design and assembly. As a result, I was able to assist in the improvement of the production line to minimise delay and enhance the workflow.
