Background

About Thomas Iken

I am an NSF GRFP Fellow pursuing a master's in physics at the University of North Dakota. I actively conduct research in material science and have past research experience in mathematics and chemistry. I am also a STEM ambassador through the North Dakota Space Grant Consortium, a NASA subsidiary, a graduate intern for Northrop Grumman, and a member of the 188th Army Band in the North Dakota National Guard. I was a member of the US-MASTERS program for three years, an NSF-funded undergraduate research program. I have been fortunate enough to publish some of my research on X-ray radiation effects on semiconductors in the Journal of Chemical Physics and present my other work at national events such as the Mathematical Association of America conference, the Physical Electronic Conference, the American Association for the Advancement of Science inaugural S-STEM Scholars Meeting, and the American Physical Society. My work as a STEM ambassador has allowed me to give back to my regional community by exposing students to and fostering a passion for science. My time as a member of the Armed Forces has allowed me to give back to my state by promoting the importance of music education, providing support at official government events, and building morale with other soldiers.
