About Thomas Kern

I am an experienced and enthusiastic architect, lecturer and pedagogue in architecture with more than two decades experience as practicing architect, and more than a decade in architectural education. Approach and Methodology: Teaching and learning as symbiotic and reciprocal relationship. Architecture as a social process, imbedded in society, enabling society. Peer learning, learning through demonstration, testing and exploration, students and teachers as a learning community. My field of expertise in education are curriculum design, inclusive strategies and learnings methods for students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, teaching international students. Mentoring and team leadership, collaboration with universities nationally and internationally, marketing strategies and international representation are also integral parts of my experience and expertise. Over the past decade I developed the INTO Newcastle Architecture Programme, from a single-module-foundation course to a comprehensive three pathway programme, with ten academic modules and more than ninety students per academic year.
