About Thomas L.
My current work revolves around two main themes. On the one hand, I have been researching contemporary and historical problematizations of bureaucracy, the state, and public service. A key issue has here been to explore the foundations of public service and the state as well as to assess how anti-statist and anti-bureaucratic critiques jeopardize security. The most recent output of this research is the book 'For Public Service: State, Office and Ethics', co-authored with Professor Paul du Gay (see link below). On the other hand, I have a long-lasting interest in the history and foundational problems of Organization Theory – in particular with how the key concept and object of Organization Theory, i.e. ‘organization’, has been critiqued. A central part of this research has been to assess the practical and theoretical implications of the ongoing critique. I currently teach organization- and management theory, strategy, and public sector management.
