Background

About Thomas Linz

I am a very strong candidate for positions requiring quantitative analysis of complex phenomena, mentoring, and working on a team of either specialists or with a wide degree of backgrounds. I am very quick and I have experience both learning and teaching complicated ideas. I received my Ph. D. in gravitational physics in 2015 at the Center for Gravitation, Cosmology, and Astrophysics at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where I worked modelling binary black hole systems. My work was both computational and analytic (pen and paper), giving me experience problem solving with the aid of a computer and without, and insight into which approach may be better for answering the question of interest. I have been working as a professor for the past two years, first at Truman State University, and currently at Beloit College. In this role, I have been a productive member of a previously established department, both in department meetings and in the every-day work place. I am gregarious and have several years experience in giving public presentations in conferences, the classroom, and invited talks. I have experience with multiple programming languages including C, C++, Mathematica, IDL, Labview, MatLab, Maple, and some limited exposure to python. I have taken a course specifically designed to teach how to use computational methods in modelling complex systems, and have experience using these methods in my own research. I am very well educated, intelligent, quick, and easy to get along with. I have experience working with very complicated systems and very long, involved projects requiring painstaking precision. I am very thorough in my work, and check it fastidiously. Finally, as a physicist, I am good at looking at complicated systems and distilling them down into their most important pieces, allowing me to create explicit, quantitative models.
