About Thomas Morgan
My group focuses in understanding the interaction between the wall of fusion reactors and the exhaust plasma which comes into contact with them. This gives extreme conditions for materials as these exhaust heat loads can be up to tens of MW per square meter, with extremely high particle flux densities. We specialize in understanding and solving problems for future fusion reactors using our unique high-flux linear plasma generators Magnum-PSI and Upgraded Pilot-PSI, which can recreate these conditions. Specific topics include the influence of plasma on tungsten microstructure evolution and designing liquid-metal based plasma facing components that can have superior performance and lifetime.
