Background

About Thomas Oaks

I have 15 years of experience in customer service and various medical office roles. I graduated with my Bachelor's from Penn State University in August of 2021 after creating a degree focused on LGBTQ+ Psychology/Sociology with a focus on qualitative research. I am currently working as a COVID Human Resources Assistant and am looking to turn my focus to a career in academia. I have conducted several small qualitative research studies for various college courses as a way to gain experience in my passion for understanding and helping others. In college, I was the first president of Pride World Campus, an LGBTQ+ student organization aimed to connect LGBTQ+ Penn State students from around the world. In 2016 I organized and facilitated biweekly support and discussion groups for local LGBTQ+ people in the Franklin County, PA area. I am not afraid to forge a new path to help others, especially when lending a voice and platform for minorities. My passion for helping and educating others combined with my passion for academia are a driving force behind my goals of a career in education at a university level.
