About Thomas Oconnor

I was born in Wellington, grew up, and went to school in Auckland. I am a hardworking person who endeavors to help teams I am on where needed. While at school, I realised that I enjoyed problem-solving, which led me to study Engineering and Commerce at university. During my studies, I learned how to approach and solve complex systems and apply what I learned to different problems. Other skills that I have accumulated during my studies are the ability to code in Python, MATLAB, and Julia. I also developed teamwork and communication skills. Currently, I am in the penultimate year of my studies in which I am specialising in Engineering Science and majoring in Finance. The skills I have learned during my studies have enabled me to work at EY, where I got to apply these problem-solving skills to different projects I worked on. Working at EY helped me develop my teamwork and communication skills as I constantly worked with a large team. It also taught me how to use Alteryx to clean, format, and process large data sets. Besides my studies, I love watching football (as a Tottenham Hotspur fan) and playing golf. Both are activities that I enjoy doing in my free time. In the future, I plan to begin my career at a large engineering consulting or business consulting firm, as companies of that caliber can offer a breadth of opportunities that will enable me to grow as my career advances.
