About Thomas Omalley

I recently graduated from the Accounting program at Langara College. I have gained many skills in different areas of business thanks to the classes at Langara. I am able to proficiently complete accounting tasks. To name a few I can manually adjust financial statements, balance journal entries, and determine a company's financial health. I have successfully learned about Microsoft Office's programs and how to properly use them and incorporate them into one another. My experience with group projects has given me a vast amount of management skills and interpersonal and communication skills. The accounting program gave me the chance to learn about accounting and finance and made me want to pursue a career in those fields. My work outside of school has mainly been lifeguarding and teaching swimming lessons. While only one of my lifeguarding roles has involved admin work that has prepared me a little bit for future office work they have given me skills that I find important in the business world today. I have gained confidence and communication skills from working as a lifeguard which would be important when wanting to deal with clients since business appears to have a large reliance on face-to-face communication for success. My experience as a co-op student at WorkSafeBC introduced me to the office setting and made me learn valuable skills that I hope to use to help advance my future endeavors. Recently I was hired back at WorkSafeBC as a Phone Control Clerk in the Payment Services department. My role is more on the financial side of the department when I am tasked with analyzing different forms and invoices to determine how much is owed to either workers or providers.
