Background
About Thomas Ortiz
Tommy's lifelong passion for aviation began at a young age when his father lifted him onto his shoulders at his first air show. With over 24 years of experience in the aviation industry, Tommy has had the privilege of being deeply involved in this world. His journey started in the military, where he served as an F-16 Crew Chief at Edwards AFB, contributing to groundbreaking programs such as the F-22, F-35, and the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM). This military experience laid a solid foundation for his career. Transitioning to civilian life, Tommy pursued his passion further and earned a Bachelor's of Science in Aviation Technology. In 2012, he joined The Boeing Company as a Manufacturing Technician, where he played a crucial role in the production process. In 2016, he embraced a new challenge as a Business Process Analyst in Final Assembly and Delivery on the 787 program. In this role, Tommy actively sought out opportunities to leverage technology and improve productivity not only within Boeing South Carolina but also across the entire Boeing Enterprise. Tommy's innovative mindset and dedication to finding better solutions quickly earned him recognition within the company. He led multiple Hackathon teams, resulting in capturing Innovation Grand Challenge Awards and local as well as Enterprise Quality Awards. Currently, Tommy serves as a key figure in the Digital Transformation and Innovation with Aircraft Level Engineering Integration (ALEI), adopting a servant leadership approach to drive progress. Driven by his passion for technology, Tommy continuously strives to keep Boeing's competitive edge razor sharp. His exceptional contributions were acknowledged through his selection to the prestigious LX Class of 2024, and he also serves as one of the Boeing Leadership Network Regional Representatives for South Carolina. When he's not working, Tommy cherishes quality time with his two young daughters. He indulges in hobbies such as gardening, crafting planters, brewing and fermenting using homegrown ingredients, and exploring the world of video games. Tommy is also an active volunteer for Boeing Dreamlearners, where he advocates for STEM careers and inspires local students and youths.
